The Deep - Hull

I went to The Deep at the end of June with my boyfriend, which was amazing! I've wanted to go ever since I visited Hull for a conference when I was on my work placement back in January but I've never really had time with uni.

The Deep is one of the UK's biggest aquariums and has around 3,500 fish, including sharks and penguins. The ticket prices are not badly priced too and if you book online like we did, you save 10% on the price of your ticket. We're also students so we both got student tickets, meaning our ticket price was just under £10.

The animals and fish inside the aquarium were amazing, there were lots of different types such as jellyfish, sting rays, sharks, penguins an insects (which I didn't pay as much attention to!). We spent around two hours inside, you can spent less or more depending on how long you spend at each tank. We went for when it opened, in the hope it wouldn't be too busy. It wasn't really busy, but it got busier later on, especially with a couple of groups of school visits.

The Deep is about a 15 minute walk from the train station, we Google mapped it, but you could always get a taxi! The staff were also really nice. They don't have lockers inside to put belongings in and because we were staying overnight, we both have heavy backpacks. The girl who served us kindly let us leave some of our stuff behind the counter (leaving it in your own risk of course!) and the lady who gave us our stuff back when we were leaving was really friendly and had a chat to us.

Because we were staying overnight we had more time to do other things during our trip, so in the evening we went to see Jurassic World which was amazing! We went to see it at Reel Cinemas, which I've never heard of before but it's so cheap! A student ticket 5pm was only £5.50 and because we had Meerkat Movies, it only cost us £5.50 for both of us! (P.S  think the prices have gone up since we went!)

The trip overall was lovely and it was so nice to have time to do fun things without having to worry about uni deadlines!

I turned 25!

So it was actually my birthday about 6 weeks ago but I had probably one of my best birthdays so I wanted to blog about it anyway!

I spent the morning and afternoon with my mum, dad and Luke and then family came round in the afternoon. Luke got me some Minion related presents so I was obviously so happy!

This year was the first year that we went out on our actual birthday too, because it landed on a Saturday so we didn't have to go out a few days later if it landed on a different day.

The night out was easily the best night out I've had! It was so nice to see loads of both mine and Luke's friends come out to celebrate our birthday and I had such a good night out full of happiness, friends and alcohol!

Enjoy the simple things...

I was having a cup of tea in my 'Enjoy The Simple Things' mug and it's made me realise you really have to do exactly that in life. I've had a busy past few months after Christmas, with 6 weeks of placement, juggling a social life and my part time job at the same time and uni. I've rarely had a day off that isn't spent doing something, but I had today off to do what I wanted.

I didn't set an alarm last night and I decided to naturally wake up. I've had a long week I ended up waking up before 8am and I couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to get on with my day with an early start! I decided to have a major spring clean in my room, it was much needed and I always feel cheerier with a tidy and clean room. I also put three loads of washing on and this is a probably a sign of how old I'm getting because I'm so pleased with how much I got through today! I'm definitely feeling positive today which inspired me to write this post.

We all have busy lives and sometimes we forget to stop and really think about little things that make us happy. Cups of tea, fresh flowers, sunsets, Minions, my new phone case, remembering fun memories, sky lights, and fresh bedding are just some of the things that make me happy.

I plan on having a pampering evening and an early night tonight so I'm ready and energised for a new week :)

Home Inspiration

I seriously can't wait to own my own house and be able to decorate and put my own stamp on every single room in my house! I've always loved interior design and Pinterest is fuelling my passion even more. I like a mix of both modern and traditional, there's nothing more aesthetically pleasing than a beautiful traditional fireplace with modern features around the room. I love pops of colour, so I plan on keeping some rooms in my future house minimal in colour, life soft greys and blues but adding pops of colour such as yellow to make the room stand out. My bathroom will be nautical themed, I've decided this after my parents have decorated our bathroom a nautical theme and I want to adopt the theme for my bathroom!

I'm tempted to start a scrap book with bits of inspiration that I find online or in magazines!

Minion cupcakes

Every Christmas my dad always buys a DVD to watch on Christmas Day and this year he bought Despicable Me 2. I'd seen the first one and loved minions but it wasn't until I saw the second one that I pretty much fell in love with them! My dad did too, so now we watch the films together and randomly quote bits of the film to each other. Cute! I bought the cake kits to make up, but I decided to make my own. I can't remember the recipe I used, but it was a basic sponge recipe that I've used for years. To decorate, I mixed up some fondant icing and added some yellow food colouring. It's best to add a bit at a time to build the colour up, it'll be pale at first but the more you add, the more vibrant the colour will be! I used gel icing pens for the features, I would have preferred a silver icing for the rim of the goggles but I didn't have one. I mixed some white and black to make grey but because it wasn't in a tube, it was difficult and messy to apply. They're not exactly going to win awards for decoration, but I' pretty damn proud of them! To mix them up a bit, I did a few that are decorated as if they were their overalls and some with Banana! and Bee Do! written on them. To make them more minion-fied next time I'm going to add some bananas into the cake mixture!

Who is your favourite minion? Mine is Dave! :)
