Goodbye 2012...

Image Via We Heart It

A year flies by quicker than you think; one minute you’re taking down your Christmas decorations and nursing a post-New Year’s hangover, the next you’re erm… putting your Christmas decorations up and getting ready to eat, drink and be merry all over again. It’s near the end of the year so I thought I’d share with you all how my year has been and what I’ve learnt.

I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions because I can never think of any that I would be willing to stick to never mind sticking to them! But every year I like to ponder how well it’s gone and whether it’s been a disaster or not.  People who know me well will be probably screaming at their laptop screen wondering why the hell he even should be mentioned here again but me and my ex splitting in June was actually one of the best things to happen. It wasn’t at the time; I cried a lot and did the whole ‘woe is me’ thing for a while but I’ve realised I’m much stronger than I think after breaking up with him. There’s a lot more to the breakup than what I’ve said on here but I realised that I should never ever be with a guy who puts something else over me 24/7 (and not something trivial). The relationship got really dull too quickly and I spent most of the time being second best to him, not good. I’m actually way more confident without him and I never particularly thought that would happen, but I flirt with guys more and I’m generally more confident around guys.

I’ve lost two stone in the past year and this has made me insanely confident. I feel like I can wear what I want and not feel as self-aware as I was before. I still want to lose more weight but I love getting compliments because they do their job in making me feel amazing.

I’ve never been the uni ‘type of person’ but one day I realised I really wanted to go; it was a simple decision that came after years of shrugging off the idea of going to uni I quickly (but efficiently!) got my UCAS application filled in, wrote my personal statement and got my reference done and then got it all sent off. I got my first off four days after applying (unconditional!) and I’m really happy that I’ve decided to finally go. I managed to bag myself a day of work experience at my regional news for ITV in the summer which was amazing. It was a hot day and I spent most of the day in a nervous and awe-infused blur but I definitely learnt some of the ins and outs of how TV news is put together.

I went to Party In The Park for the first time this year back in the summer. It was another rare hot summers day and I got sun burnt for the first time in years too! The best act was obviously One Direction; I’ve never screamed so loud in my life. However I feel that my vocal chords will be permanently damaged when I go see them in Sheffield in March next year. I got up really early in the morning way back in March to buy tickets when they went on sale at 9am. It was a tense 10 minutes or so when I was stuck in a queue on various ticket sites but I eventually got my hands on a pair!

I’ve learnt a lot about blogging in the past year; I’ve developed my blogging and writing style considerably since I started my blog way back in October 2011. My life is definitely ‘blogger influenced’; think a love for Lush, tights-socks-and boots combo, Zara, Yankee Candles, disco pants and Cath Kidston. Before blogging I never dreamed of spending more than say £6 on a skincare product and whilst I’m not splashing the cash at the first sign of higher market stuff I’m a lot more open to spending money on stuff. My favourite blogs of the year are; One Hand In My Pocket, ASHLLYD, Milk Bubble Tea, I Covet TheeLittle Winter and Cider With Rosie.

I really hope 2013 is kind to you all and brings you joy and happiness! Here’s to another year of happy blogging!

Christmas 2012

Christmas Eve in my new Christmas PJs – My brother bought well! – Simbaaa – Nearly time for Christmas dinner – So good! – Me and the brother

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! I hate that it’s all over; Christmas is my favourite time of the year and I hate the weeks after when you have to take decorations down and put away all of your presents. I feel very lucky to get loads of lovely things; I was definitely spoilt rotten by my lovely family and friends! I got loads of One Direction goodies including a t-shirt, mug, lunch box, book, CD, notepad and pens, 1D Love Hearts, annual, sticker book, poster book, DVD, the list goes on. I also got a Simba teddy too but I totally forgot to photograph it with the rest of my stuff! All of my presents are currently housed in some One Direction gift bags (ah-mazinggggg), ready to be put away in the New Year when I do the enviable task of clearing and sorting out my room so it’s nice and fresh for the New Year.

I spent most of Christmas slobbing about in my PJs watching Disney films and munching on chocolate with my family. One of the things I love about Christmas is getting to spend some quality time with family and family that you hardly get to see too! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas guys!

A year in style

Thank you if you managed to get to the bottom, it is a picture heavy post! I’ve only taken a few ‘proper’ outfit posts and the rest are awkward angled Instagram photos. I like to take photos of what I’m wearing because it’s nice to look back on what you wore and think “hey that’s an nice outfit!”, which I have done whilst collating these photos. Geek I know. I don’t consider myself as a ‘fashion blogger’ at all but I like to dip in to an outfit post here and there.

When I look back at what I wore throughout the year, I realised that not only do I look like a 12 year old; I also dress like one too. I also tend to wear things with collars quite a bit and my Matalan boots and my Vans are basically the only footwear I’ve worn. Here’s to (hopefully) another fashionable year!*

*Hopefully dressing more like an adult and wearing more than two pairs of shoes throughout the year.

Sunday Update 23/12/12

Christmas card and present from Cat! – Wore Converse for the first time in a long time – Exciting! – Fave beauty bits – My lunch box is so cute – Christmas present to myself.

So it’s Christmas Eve tomorrow….. SERIOUSLY OMG! It hasn’t really felt like Christmas for the past week, even though I felt really festive and Christmassy at the beginning of the month. Weird! But I am not officially excited now! I’m working tomorrow which sucks but I’ll survive!

The third picture is something that I haven’t really filled people in with yet…but I think it’s pretty obvious by the picture that I’m off to uni! I’ll do a post on it at some point in the New Year because I have a lot to say about it and why I’ve left it until I’m older etc. I sent off my application last week and I’ve already got an offer from the University of Huddersfield, exciting!

I’ve scheduled a post for tomorrow, but I’ll wish everyone a Merry Christmas now in case you don’t get chance to read it! Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

Last minute Christmas gifts

There’s only five days left until ‘the big day’, eek! If you’re not an organised bunny like me and you still have a few last minute presents to get then fear not, there’s still time! I’ve put together a few ideas that I thought of for last minute gifts that should be easy to get hold of.

Photo frame – Everyone loves a pretty frame with a nice photo so this is a pretty fail safe gift idea! The picture frame pictured (haha) is from Next and I got it back in October for £8.00. It’s for my Mum because she loves cream and white details to go in her bedroom and I know she’ll love the ‘family’ detail on it. I popped a picture of me and my brother on holiday in the summer because I love the photo and I know she’ll love it! Photo frames should still be fairly easy to get because they’re not an obvious gift idea and they are sold all year round in shops!

Home made hampers – This is a lovely idea I found on Pinterest. Buy a basket and simply fill it with cute things! This one is tea-themed, with the teapot, chocolates and sweets in a jar but you could do anything depending who you’re buying for! Other ideas include buying baby bits and bobs such as baby wash, baby powder etc for an expectant mum or buying Christmas food treats for a foodie!

Gift cards – I love gift cards, you can buy exactly what you want with them and people always appreciate them. There’s a gift card for everyone so even the most ‘hard to buy for’ people are easy to get for because most retailers have gift cards; even supermarkets! Gift cards are sold all year round so they’ll still be available now!

Hope this has helped people! My presents are all bought, wrapped and are now all living under the Christmas tree! (not that I’m showing off!)

Sunday Update 16/12/12

Fave boy – Baking cinnamon buns – Just out of the oven – Christmas tree – Resembling a cowboy with tan accessories and a checked shirt – Small MUA haul – Christmas present wrapping – Payday treat – More Christmas present wrapping – Excited! – Onesie time – Oh I look 12 again…

A big update this week! Sunday I went out with some friends from work for a double leaving meal. The guy in the first picture is my favourite boy, I’ve known him for 5 years and I’m gutted he’s leaving me for another job! We went to Red Hot Buffet which is perfect for meals with lots of people because it caters for all the fussy eaters! In case you don’t have one near you, the buffet has food from all around the world, like Chinese, Indian, Italian etc, so it’s really varied.

8 days until Christmas! It seems to come around so quickly! I have all my presents bought and wrapped and are now living under the tree for the next week. I’m working Christmas Eve and New Years Eve which sucks but I got the choice of what I wanted to work over Christmas and New Years so it’s kind of ok!

My favourite dupes

When it comes to parting with my money for clothes and accessories, I like to get the best quality products for the best price. I am really wary and conscious of spending money so when I see dupes for products, whether it’s clothing, accessories or beauty, I always tend to buy the dupe over the original product. Recently I’ve seen a few products that I’ve immediately noticed that they’re a dupe for something else and bought the cheaper dupe version. Here are my favourite dupes that I’ve bought recently.

George Studded Checked Shirt - £14 / Dupe for the Zara Studded Checked Shirt - £39.99
Saving - £25.99

When I saw this my first thought was that it’s basically the same as the Zara version. I’ve seen the Zara one floating around on a few blogs and because I’m a massive checked shirt fan, I naturally really wanted it. The £39.99 is personally a hefty price tag for me, when you can get plain checked shirts for around £20. So the studded detail hardly adds an extra £20 to the price tag. The checked pattern is really similar, the only slight difference in the two shirts is that the Zara version has four rows of studs on each pocket and the George one only has one.

River Island Tube Pants - £30 / Dupe for the American Apparel Disco Pants – £74
Saving – £44

The original AA disco pants are a shocking £74 and although I’ve heard they fit and look better than many dupes, you could literally buy two pairs of the RI dupes and still have £14 left. I’ve heard the AA ones are shinier than the RI version however I much prefer the matte feel because I don’t feel like the draw as much attention to my thighs as much as I think the AA version would. The River Island dupes also have a button and zip fastening like the American Apparel ones.

New Look Crushed Velvet Skater Skirt - £6 (in the sale) / Dupe for the Topshop Velvet Skater Skirt - £28Saving - £22

The main difference in the two skirts is that the New Look dupe is crushed velvet, rather than normal velvet. A friend bought the Topshop version and apart from being slightly different velvets, they are basically the same. They are both skater styles and are both high waisted, only with different price tags. I bought the New Look one in the sale (originally £12.99) because the skater style fit is my favourite and it’s an alternative to a plain black skater skirt.

What are you favourite dupes? Do you like buying dupes or do you rather buy original versions of products?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

Our tree and decorations were all fully put up over the weekend so I took some photos of some decorations around the house, the tree in my living room and the little tree I always put up in my room. I’m so excited for Christmas its unreal! Christmas is more about spending time with family than anything else, although food and presents are nice!

Are you exited for Christmas?
