Holiday 2012

I had to include the last one even if I’m missing my head! My Dad got a bit fed up of me constantly asking for photos with my full outfit in, so he thought it would be funny to start taking them minus my head, oh dear!

I’m back! I had a lovely holiday and I’m gutted I’m back home! I’m definitely one of those people who get holidays blues, even if it’s a ‘stay-cation’. I miss walks along the beach with an ice-cream in my hand and the sound of the amusements and seagulls. Oh how I love the seaside!

We stayed in Scarborough for a week and it’s not the most fancy of places but I love being by the coast. We went to Whitby for the day on Wednesday, which is just as lovely! Part of Dracula by Bram Stoker was set in Whitby, which results in loads of Dracula merchandise in shops and an insane amount of Goths. We went along the Whitby pier and up to the Abbey, which to get to is 199 steps away. It’s pretty easy although when I got to the stop I did stop of catch my breath a bit!

We went to the Sealife Centre too which I love! I’ve been loads of times and it’s nice to go see the cute animals and fish! The staff there are lovely too and take the time out to do talks about the animals, I saw a seal and an otter talk! My favourite is the seals, but the penguins and otters are also cute!

The rest of the holiday was spent relaxing, shopping (obviously!) and eating nice food. By eating nice food I mean fish and chips: and loads of them! I don’t actually like fish, so I have sausage and chips and it really should be made illegal if you go to the seaside and don’t eat fish and chips. Practically the seafront is made up of fish and chip shops and ice-cream bars. Perfect!

This is only a small selection of photos from my holiday, I’ve kept out the ones with my family in because I didn’t want to share too many online. So hence the large amount with me in, sorry guys!

What's in my bag

This probably isn’t a true representation of what’s in my bag because I change my bag ALL THE TIME. I change it depending on what outfit I’m wearing as some bags look better than others with certain outfits ~girl problems~. I’ve been using this one I got from H&M about three years ago a lot because it’s a nice shape, size and sits nicely on my arm. Plus because it’s black and a classic style, it goes with most outfits!

I’m not one for having a million things kicking about in my bag; I hate clutter and disorganisation so random bits of crap I don’t need kicking around is a no-no for me! So I just have the basic and essential things I need when I’m out. My purse is from New Look, I’m a sucker for bows so I had to get this when I saw it. It’s such a lovely colour too! I always have my iPod with me, bus journeys are awful without music. My phone is an obvious essential too! I always have a mini makeup bag with me, usually bought from H&M because they always do cute and cheap makeup bags. I never really take any makeup out with me, only my Rimmel Clear Complexion powder for touching up and maybe a lipstick, although I don’t have one in my bag at the moment. I have two compact mirrors, one Jack Wills and the other Chanel. I don’t really know why I have two if I’m honest! I like to have some hand gel too, I always have to wash my hands a lot because I hate having mucky hands and it’s handy to have to you’re going to eat when you’re out. I got Kate Moss Lilabelle from a friend from work for my birthday this year and it smells so lovely and the bottle is cute. Lastly some paracetamol because I tend to get headaches a lot, usually when I’m tired and they’re always handy to have in my bag!

Daily face

Products: Simple Oil Balancing moisturiser, Vichy Normaderm, Benefit Porefessional, E.L.F Mineral foundation in Fair, Bourjois concealer (possibly discontinued!), Rimmel Clear Complexion powder, Real Techniques Buffing brush, MAC eyeliner, Rimmel blush in Santa Rose, Soap & Glory Love At First Blush, 17 Peep Show mascara and No7 Intense Volume mascara.

I’ve recently learnt that the whole saying of ‘less is more’ definitely is the case when it comes to makeup. Now that my skin is better (touchwood!), I can get away with hardly wearing any makeup which I love! Plus I always think it’s nicer in the summer to wear less makeup and not to look too ‘made up’. Wearing less makeup makes me look even younger than I do normally but I think I look fresher without that much.

I start with applying moisturiser, then I use Vichy Normaderm and finally Benefit Porefessional which I got with Glamour magazine. I don’t wear liquid foundation anymore and I love it too! My skin no longer gets that awful sheen that it gets after my foundation has been on for a few hours and I look more fresh faced and personally I feel like I look like I don’t have any foundation on at all. The E.L.F Mineral foundation is amazing, the only downside is the tiny pot, I go through it much quicker than I would with a normal bottle of liquid foundation. I use a Bourjois concealer and I’m pretty sure it’s been discontinued now! Then I apply Rimmel Clear Complexion powder to my t-zone. I apply my foundation with Real Techniques Buffing Brush which works amazingly well with mineral foundation. I apply my powder with a regular powder puff that I keep with my powder. I sometimes apply blusher, which is either Rimmel blush in ‘Santa Rose’ or Soap & Glory Love at First Blush. I apply a little eyeliner, but only from the outside to the middle of my eye lid so it makes my lashes look fuller when I apply my mascara. I use 17 Peep Show on my top lashes and No7 Intense Volume to my lower lashes.

Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance Leave-In Conditioner

I bought this a while ago and it’s my first leave in conditioner that I’ve bought. I use normal conditioner but only on the ends and mid length of my hair and whilst this works nicely, I was after something I could leave in. This smells amazing and is cheap so I decided to give this a go. It leaves my hair smelling gorgeous and feeling soft. I use it a few times a week after I’ve been in the shower on towel dried hair (as directed). It’s not so good on making my dry ends better, standard liquid conditioner is better for my dry ends, but I can use this in the full length of my hair (bar my roots and fringe) without making my hair feel greasy. I will definitely be repurchasing this when I run out!

Top 5 Albums

I usually rotate the albums that I listen to every so often; I usually listen to a few albums constantly for a couple of months and then go onto others. These are the five albums that I’ve been listening to lately.

Sinners Never Sleep – You Me At Six
I got this for Christmas and I’m still listening to it! It’s probably my favourite You Me At Six album because I think they have matured a lot over the years and this has transferred to their music.

Move Along – The All-American Rejects
This is super old, from about 2006 I think?! I was so obsessed with this when I first came out and I always go back to listening to it every so often. It’s the nice pop-punk music that’s really good to listen to in the summer!

Contrast – Conor Maynard
This only came out a few weeks ago and I got it on the day it was released. It’s nice easy listening and kind of cheesy but I love it! I saw Conor live at Party in the Park Leeds which was amazing and Vegas Girl is such a summer song!

Up All Night (Yearbook Edition) – One Direction
The Yearbook Edition of Up All Night features two extra songs, so I usually listen to this more than the original Up All Night because of the extra songs. It was a year last week since What Makes You Beautiful was first played on the radio (10th August) and look how far they have come! I’m so proud of them!

So Wrong, It’s Right – All Time Low
This is the ultimate summer album! All Time Low is one of my favourite bands and this is one of my favourite albums. ‘Six Feet Under theStars’ is the perfect summer anthem and ‘Remembering Sunday’ is such a beautiful song.

Current reads

If you know me well you’ll know that I love to read and that I also buy A LOT of magazines. I buy three weeklies every week, Grazia, Look and More! magazine. These are my favourite weeklies based on their content and style ~geek alert~ and I justify my 3 a week habit by the fact that I read them cover to cover rather than just have a flick through. I buy Elle every month without fail. I’ve been reading Elle since I was about 17/18 and I much prefer it to Vogue. I also buy Glamour and Company every month too. I’m also re-reading the Harry Potter series too which is taking me longer than usual because I have a back log of magazines to get through….oops!

Glitter Cupcakes

I’ve been in a real baking mood recently, I baked a cake last week which didn’t turn out quite how I wanted, but today me and my mum decided to bake a few bits and pieces! We made these glitter cupcakes, cinnamon and sultana muffins and a russian slice which is my mum’s fave! The recipe for my glitter cupcakes is really simple, however the icing and glitter add something special to them! Enjoy!

Ingredients: (Makes 12)
5oz/140g margarine or butter
50z/140g caster sugar
5oz/140g self raising flour
3 eggs
Few drops of vanilla essence

To decorate:
Buttercream icing (I used Betty Crocker’s Buttercream style icing in vanilla)
Edible glitter
Sugar flower shapes or any other cute decorations

1. First cream the margarine/butter together with the sugar until it’s light and fluffy. You can do this with a mixer or by hand. I did it by hand which works just as well as a mixer!

2. Add the eggs and flour little by little. I personally added an egg, mixed together, added flour, mixed, added an egg and so on. I also sieved the flour in, so it added some air and also stops any nasty bits of flour getting into the mixture.

3. Once the margarine/butter, eggs and flour have been mixed together, add a few drops of vanilla essence and mix.

4. Spoon the mixture into 12 cupcake cases and bake for 20-25 minutes in an oven pre-hated to 180 degrees celsius. You can tell if they’re cooked by pressing lightly in the middle of the cupcake and if it springs back, it’s nicely cooked!

5. Leave them to completely cool before decorating with buttercream icing. I used a piping bag to add the Buttercream to the top of the cupcakes.

6. Sprinkle with edible glitter. The glitter I used was from Hobbycraft and I was assured it’s safe to eat as its non toxic. You wouldn’t actually start eating it out from the tub obviously, but it’s safe to eat when sprinkled on cupcakes etc and it doesn’t do any harm to you at all! Then add any decorative bits you might have! I had these sugar flower shapes kicking around my baking box, so added those!

Sunday Update 12/8/12

Selfie | Having tea in my London mug makes me really miss LDN so much! | Baking | Best shoes ever | Went to Morrisons and spent best part of a tenner on magazines, standard | Blog planning on a sunny morning | Perving on Tom Daley | Harry Potter kinda day.

I’m so gutted that the Olympics are over! I was the person who was always moaning “I’m not excited for the Olympics” because it did seem to take over everything a year before it was actually on, but when it came to it I enjoyed every minute of it! I’m really patriotic and I love everything about Great Britain stands for so I was really proud that we came away with 65 medals in total; 29 gold, 17 silver and 19 bronze. Overall 3rd in the medal table which is amazing! Hopefully we’ll do just as well in the Paralympic games.

I’m on holiday next week, as of 18th August and I get back 25th August. I’ve scheduled posts for when I’m away so you’ll have something to read whilst I’m away. I’ll still be on Twitter and Instagram however because I’ll have my phone. Have a nice week!

Top 5 apps

L-R | Instagram, Met Office, Twitter, Line Camera and Halifax

I’m addicted to apps, although I’m tight with my money and only download free ones. I honestly don’t see the point in paying for them when you don’t have anything physical for your money! I have a few useful ones and then the rest are all novelty! Here are my personal top 5 that I use everyday and that I really rate. Just a quick note; I have an Android phone so I’m not sure if all of these are available for iPhones, but I’m sure they are!

Instagram – Free
I’m literally addicted to Instagram; it’s such a good app. I post a couple of photos a day and I love browsing through other people’s photos. The effects are really nice too and they turn ordinary snaps into pretty ones!

Met Office – Free
This is one of my useful and kinda of boring apps! I’m really odd in the sense that I check the weather EVERYDAY before I go out. Strange I know! This is really good because it locates my exact location (as in the town that I live in) of where I live rather than just giving me the weather for Leeds, it gives me a more accurate forecast. Oh dear, I sound so sad!

Twitter – Free
I remember when I first got into Twitter and Anna said that I’d get hooked on it. I never particularly thought I would but I actually am now! The Twitter app is really easy to use and navigate too.

Line Camera – Free
I’ve only have this a couple of days but I love it! It’s just like Instagram only I kind of prefer the filters on this one! You can also add cute stamps to photos, like love hearts, stars and other cute things! It’s very ‘kawaii’ as the Japanese say, so it isn’t as ‘arty’ as Instagram but it’s cute and the stamps etc are optional so it’s not mandatory to add hearts and bows to very photo! You can also share the photos to other apps like Instagram so I post photos I’ve edited on Line Camera to Instagram and Twitter.

Halifax – Free
My other boring app! It’s so handy to use when I’m on the bus or I can’t access an ATM to check my balance! It also has features so you can find an ATM or a branch using your location which is really handy.

Sunday Update 5/8/12

One Direction lanyard from Party in the Park | Pound shop treats | Puppy love | Pretty cheesy album but still love it! | Primark men’s section is the best | One Direction love

I’ve hardly taken any photos this week because I’ve been doing a bit of overtime at work, so I’ve not had that much free time this week. I went shopping on Monday, well I hardly bought anything but I did get those amazing 101 Dalmatians pyjamas from Primark. I’m considering wearing the top as a normal top rather than wear it in bed, what’s the deal with wearing pjs as normal daytime clothes? The top is quite long so I’ll only wear it tucked into jeans and shorts, otherwise it’ll look obvious that it’s a pj top!

I’m working tomorrow and Tuesday, both 12 hour shifts and Tuesday is a 5pm-5am night shift. Then I’m done for 3 weeks! I’m planning lots of posts during the time I’m off including some baking since I haven’t done any in forever!
